After carrying out his mission Captain Bunn returned to England. There a London company of shipowners - Buckle, Buckle, Bagster and Buchanan - engaged him as their shipping agent in Sydney. Captain Bunn then looked around for a young man who, for 300 pounds [no symbol for a pound] a year and a promise of a partnership once his worth was proven, would come to Sydney as his head clerk.
He selected a young man, known to him, who worked at the head office of his company. He was Edward Boxer Mowle, who was about twenty. This six-foot tall young man was so handsome that ' women could nor forbear to follow him with their eyes ' when he passed by. Among the relatives farewelled by Edward Mowle before he left England was the family of his elder brother, Richard, who was an officer of the Imperial Revenue Service at the Port of Deal. It is not related whether his three-year-old nephew, Stewart Mowle, was brought forward to say goodbye to him.
