155. George Henry MOWLL267 was born in 1852.268 In 1878 he lived at 2 Effingham LAwn in Dover, Kent, England, United Kingdom. He died in 1910 at the age of 58.268 George was a Wine and Spirit Merchant and Importer in Dover, Kent, England, United Kingdom.267 He inherited the business from his father He was apparently well known for being a "playboy" and a ladies man. It has been said that ,during the Victorian era, The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) would pass through Dover on his way to France. George Henry, on occasions, would accompany him and together they would frolic with the damsels!
He was a poor businessman and made some poor investments. As a result he lost a great deal of money. When he died in 1910 he left his wife, Maud, with diminished assets and the daunting task of providing for a large family. She was a stern and determined woman capable of facing up to difficult decisions. One of these was to ship her sons: Sydney, George, William and Victor to Canada to make their own way.

George Henry MOWLL and Emily Maud HICKS were married in 1887.268 Emily Maud HICKS was born about 1865.269 In 1918 she lived at 20 St Andrew's Terrace in Dover, Kent, England, United Kingdom.270 She died in 1937 at the age of 72.269

Sydney Edward MOWLL was born in 1889.268 He emigrated after 1910 from Canada.267 He served in the military The Canadian Infantry from 1914.267 Sydney died in 1916 at the age of 27 in Ypres, Belgium.267,268 He was killed in action at the battle of Ypres when a trench caved in on him. He was buried in 1916 in Ypres, Belgium.267

George Herbert MOWLL267 was born in 1891.267 He emigrated after 1910 from Canada.267 He served in the military The Canadian Infantry from 1914.267 He was badly wounded in France during World War 1 when a hand grenade blew up in his right hand. He lost half his right hand and suffered many other shrapenel wounds which resulted in several years of hopitalisation. From 1920 George was a Real Estate Salesman in California, United States.271 From 1935 to 1942 he lived in England, United Kingdom.271 He had returned to England to settle his Aunt's estate and following the outbreak of war in 1939 and the subsequent travel restrictions prevented him leaving. He left England on October 22nd 1942 as an escort for his orphaned nephews, Reginald and Bobby, on their journey to their new home with Aunt Violet in California. He died in 1961 at the age of 70 in Riverside, Riverside, California, United States.268,271 from a heart attack.

Herbert Rutley (Bertie) MOWLL272 was born on 22 March 1899.273 He died on 24 August 1962 at the age of 63.267 He was buried after 26 August 1962 in West Norwood Cemetry, South London, England.272,274 In the family grave with his parents and siblings. He was a sickly child , not liked by his mother. in 1914 she made arrangements with the merchant marine service and literally indentured him to the merchant sea service. He spent WW1 at sea having 2 ships torpedoed and sunk from under him - One by an Austrian Submarine off the coast of Ireland and one by a German submarine off the coast of Tunisia. After the war he rose to become Third Officer, travelling the world extensively.
He left his ship in the 1930's and illegally entered the United States by crossing the U.S. Mexican border. After living for several years in the Colton, Redlands area of California he was finally caught near San Diego and deported to England c.1934/35.
He then spent several years working for the Ministry of Transport.
